Commercial Register Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Commercial Register is to encourage the gathering of EBVs on
Highland Beef Cattle; therefore registration of all progeny is encouraged.?
Beef Sires & Beef Dams:
Bulls and Cows registered in the Commercial Register and retained for breeding purposes may be approved
as ?Beef Sires? and ?Beef Dams?
Bulls are eligible for acceptance as Beef Sires if they are registered in the Fullblood, Fior'aon or Purebred Classes
of the Society's Commercial Register.
Cows are eligible for acceptance as Beef Dams if they are registered in the Fullblood, Fior'aon or Purebred Classes
of the Society's Commercial Register.

Commercial Register Suffix:
Animals registered in the Commercial Register are assigned an ?NHR? registration number
with the suffix ?C?

Progeny of Stud & Polled Registers:
The progeny of Bulls & Cows registered in the Society's Stud and Polled Registers
are eligible for registration in the appropriate class of the
Commercial Register, provided the conditions of the class are met.

Multiple Registrations:
A Bull or Cow registered in the Stud or Polled Herdbooks is not eligible
for registration in the Commercial Herdbook.
The Commercial Register of the National Highland Register Society recognises the following classes of Highland Cattle:

Fullblood (F):
Bulls and cows eligible for registration in this class must be Fullblood animals supported by no less
than five(5) generations of ancestry registered by the Society or an approved herdbook; none of whose
ancestors shall have ever had any animals from the Fior'aon, Purebred, A-Grade, B-Grade or C-Grade Classes
in their genetic history.

Fior'aon (FP): (Pron. Fearane)
Bulls and cows eligible for registration in this class must be Purebred animals supported by no
less than five (5) generations of ancestry registered by the Society or an approved herdbook;
none of whose 5 generations of registered ancestry shall include animals from the A-Grade,
B-Grade or C-Grade classes or any P1 Bulls from the Purebred Class; each subsquent generation progress to a higher grade than that previous.

Purebred (P1, P2, P3, P4):
Bulls and cows eligible for registration in this class must be Purebred animals whose dam & sire are
registered in a Purebred, Fior'aon or Fullblood Class by the Society or an approved herdbook;
Cows whose sires are registered in Purebred, Fior'aon or Fullblood Classes by the Society or an
approved herdbook and whose dams are registered in the A-Grade Class by the Society or an approved herdbook.
Bulls whose sires are registered in the Purebred, Fior?aon or Fullblood Classes and whose dams
are registered in the A-Grade Class, known as P1 bulls, are eligible
for registration in the Commercial Herdbook of the Society.

A-Grade (7/8 Pure):
Cows & Bulls eligible for registration in this class must be A-Grade animals whose sire is
registered in a Purebred, Fior'aon or Fullblood Class by the Society or an approved herdbook; and whose
dam is registered in the B-Grade Class by the Society or an approved herdbook.
Cows, without documentation, whose ancestry is obviously Highland and who have been assessed
as being A-Grade by an independent inspector approved by the Society
The progeny of A-Grade Class Bulls are not eligibile for registration in any class
of any Register of the Society; therefore the Society recommends the steering of A-Grade Class bulls.

B-Grade (3/4 Pure):
Cows & Bulls eligible for registration in this class must be B-Grade animals whose sire is
registered in a Purebred, Fior'aon or Fullblood Class by the Society or an approved herdbook. and whose
dam is registered in the C-Grade Class by the Society or an approved herdbook.
Cows, without documentation. whose ancestry is obviously Highland and who have been assessed
as being B-Grade by an independent inspector approved by the Society
The progeny of B-Grade Class Bulls are not eligibile for registration any class
of any Register of the Society; therefore the Society recommends the steering of B-Grade Class bulls.

C-Grade (1/2 Pure):
Cows & Bulls eligible for registration in this class must be C-Grade animals whose sire is
registered in a Purebred, Fior'aon or Fullblood Class by the Society or an approved herdbook. and whose
dam is less than 1/2 pure or of any other breed of cattle.
The progeny of C-Grade Class Bulls are not eligibile for registration in class
of any Register of the Society; therefore the Society recommends the steering of C-Grade Class bulls.
